Return to Sender No.1 Mission

Space Ops Australia is building its future with a series of missions called the Return to Sender missions. These missions are designed to enable collaboration of Australian engineering groups to work together to a common goal, of achieving space launch on a reusable platform.

RTS #1 will be a proving out stage of achieving flight, working with Australian engineering/industry and to gain experience in launch the best way possible.

The requirements for the RTS #1 include:

  • Safe operations of a high power launch vehicle
  • Achieving a 5km flight altitude
  • Safe recovery of vehicle and payloads

We have a working collaboration with NextAero from Victoria, Southern Launch from South Australia and ResearchSat from South Australia.

    

NextAero is providing their next generation Aerospike engine. With great efficiency to any altitudes this is a Australian design and made rocket engine for the future. 3D printed with the some of the strongest metals available, this engine will become a game changer for the future of the global space launch environment. http://nextaero.com.au/

 

Southern Launch is company developing the necessary launch sites from Australia to enable Space Ops to conduct launches to space in the future. With their help, we can achieve launch from safe sites across South Australia. Their team provides us with technical and safety points to ensure a safe launch. https://southernlaunch.space/

 

Research Sat is an new microbiology experiments company developing an lab on a chip that can fit into a cubesat form factor to be sent into the micro gravity environment that is space. Picosat Systems are Perth Based pico sat company. They offer one of the smallest educational and Earth Observation cubesats available on the market. Their platform provides an unique, low cost and practical way for students and educators to become knowledgeable in space technologies, but because of its incredible small size and mass, this is one of the lowest costs satellites that can reach space.  http://picosat.systems/

 

The Sydney Women In Aerospace Engineering (SWAE) are based at The University of Sydney. Their team will be providing a cubesat with sensor equipment to sense the vehicle’s motion and internal conditions. This will be a great opportunity for SWAE members to discover and extend their skills in engineering and satellite development.
