Spooky Action (and Sensing) at a Distance
Rockets, like any intelligent system, need a way to link all the distributed sensing and actuation modules to the central controller, the brains of the operation.
Enter SODAS, the SpaceOps Distributed Actuation and Sensing System. SODAS allows us to connect every point on the Rocket back to the main flight computer, allowing diagnostic sensing and actuation along the length of the vehicle, giving live status checks and allowing control of every critical sub-system. The distributed system has been designed to allow dozens of varied sensing and actuation modules to link into a common communication channel, which means that it will be ready for expansion for larger orbital vehicles as soon as SpaceOps needs it!
We’re currently in the testing phase of the system, confirming functionality with a couple of modules and a raspberry pi in place of the flight computer, but pretty soon SODAS will form the main framework of our first launch vehicle allowing for real time control and sensing of the Rocket during flight.
Cheers to SODAS!
